For the longest time, we thought we were going to name our son Hudson. This is a special name for Heidi and I, and used this great biography of Hudson Taylor, It Is Not Death to Die, to actually spark our relationship together.
When I first read this book (back in my college days), it was while I was in Venezuela for 3 months serving alongside some missionaries. This book was one of my closest companions during those 3 months.
That next year, Heidi (who I barely knew), was headed to Zambia for a short-term (4 week) trip to serve alongside a long-time missionary nurse from our church. Before she left, I gave her this biography of Hudson Taylor to read and take with her.
We weren't even dating at this point in our relationship. A beautiful story made short, she came back from Zambia and God quickly knit our hearts together and we were dating, engaged and married in less than a year.
Hudson became a very special name for us and thought we'd be naming our next son Hudson...UNTIL we actually got the referral this past October 1st!
When we got the call on October 1st, 2011 about a few month old boy, who was found by police alone in a street without any parents or relatives and brought to the orphanage at a very young age, who the care workers named 'Musse', which in English is Moses, we knew that that name fit him and be a part of his heritage and life.
Our son will be named Moses and we pray that God would use him in miraculous ways to testify of the greatness and power of God. God has already used our little boy to teach us about the love and care of Our Father and are so expectant and looking forward to having him in our arms as our son.
If you have followed this blog since the inception, you'll know that a lot of our earlier posts mentioned Hudson...so I want to clarify that Moses will be his name.

Adoption Update, Waiting on the Lord for a Court Date and Ezra praying
Sorry it has been so long since I have posted.
We don't really have any new information about the progress of our adoption as we wait for application for a court hearing.
We talked to our case worker yesterday and this week's rounds of court application appointments occurred, but our case was not one that was heard.
Each Wednesday new courts appointments are given, so we'll have to wait until next week to see if our case will be on schedule.
Crazy thing is that the latest court appointments were for January 21st, 2011. So even if we did get a court appointment next week, the actual court date and traveling to Ethiopia wouldn't be until at least the last week of January and maybe even February.
How to pray for us & Musse
1. Please pray that with us that we will get a court appointment soon. Our heart is so desirous to get over there and see, hold, touch, care for, nurture, feed, smile with, our son.
2. Please pray that our hearts will remain hopeful in the times of waiting. Without a doubt the Lord has magnificent purposes in seasons of waiting and we want to trust Him completely.
3. We got some updated pictures and what a joy to get those...it is like Christmas getting new pictures, especially ones where he is smiling. Quickly brought me to tears of joy and of longing to be in Ethiopia to hold my son, but pictures are a huge blessing.
It has been such a joy to see Ezra and Olivia begin to pray for Musse on a daily basis. Ezra really has taken this seriously and prays for him on a daily basis without any initiation on our part. He usually prays as follows,
'Dear Lord, please be with Moses Hudson today. Please help him have someone who will give him something to eat and will watch out for him until we can come and get him. Help us be able to go get him soon.'

Our Adoption Referral
A little Background
On the morning of October 1st, 2010, we were sitting down for breakfast and I leaned over to Heidi and asked, 'I wonder when our agency is going to call us? Maybe our specifications for a child are too narrow (boy, under 6 months old)? Heidi graciously replied, 'Dustin, the Lord knows the situation and His timing is perfect.'
October 1st was also Heidi's birthday!!! This was a great birthday gift!
I was headed out to leave for work and she had picked up her phone and realized that she had a voicemail from our adoption agency caseworker....which we know only means 1 thing...a referral.
Heidi talked with our caseworker and sure enough, it was referral day!
His current name on the paperwork: 'Musse Unknown' (When there is the word 'unknown', it means that there is no record of the father and mother. Very similar to Ezra's story, a police officer came across 'Musse' and brought him to the orphanage. He was 5 days old when the officer found him and directly came into the orphanage. He was/is extremely malnourished and in need of good care quickly. Before Musse would be available for referral, he needed to be at the orphanage in the village/town for 2 months, in case anyone in the area claimed him as their son or relative in any way. So, in mid-September, Musse was legally/officially ready to be adopted.
What does the name Musse mean???
The name if pronounced "MooSAY" and the English equivalent to 'Moses'.
Some might think he was 'abandoned' but if you are unfamiliar with the vast poverty, famine, etc. you will realize that he was really being set free for an opportunity for life and survival. The mother of Moses in the Bible loved him without a shadow of a doubt, but knew his life was in extreme danger if she didn't act and do something. In the same way, this biological mother, who we will never meet in this life, did so for Musse.
The Lord has answered countless prayers thus far and we look forward to continuing to see him answer many prayers.
What is the next step?
Our agency applies for a court date and then we travel. Hard to say exactly when that will be...but probably sometime in December or early January.
Can you put some pictures online?
We cannot until Musse is legally our son. Sorry.

Our agency STRONGLY encourages all adoptive families to take photos, medical information, etc. to a pediatrician or a pediatrician specializing in adoption situations. So we did that and felt it was important to wait until all that information was taken care of prior to broadcasting it across the world via our blog.

Our current stage in the adoption process
Lately, we have received a lot of questions regarding where we are at in the process of our adoption. Thus, I thought I would share a quick timeline so it is clear that we didn't just start the adoption process a month ago and are now on the waiting list.
November 2008 - Filled out initial paperwork for application to adopt with CWA.
January 2009 through June 2009 - Filled out Dossier, Mailed Dossier, Dossier sent to Ethiopia and translated.
July - August 2009 - Officially on the waiting list to adopt. At this same time we find out that Heidi is pregnant. Our agency's policy (which we feel is a good policy) is to have pregnant couples go on hold with the process until 6 months after the birth of the baby. But, because we already had our dossier in and were on the waiting list, we were told that when the time came we could 'get back in line' where we left off.
January 2010 - Camille is born
July 2010 - We call CWA and let them know we'd like to get back into the process.
August 2010 -- CWA took our case before a review committee and approved us to get back on the waiting list. We had our garage sale Fundraiser and it went incredible.
August ---- whenever - Officially on the wait on the Lord list of a boy under 3 from Ethiopia, probably sometime between mid-September through December.

Giving Thanks...Adoption Fundraiser Update
Saturday was a flurry of activity:
To bed on Friday night at 1:30 am, awake at 4:40 Saturday morning.
Begin setting up at 5 am and shoppers starting come at 7 am Saturday morning
We saw the Lord answer countless prayers and are so grateful to everyone who helped us in countless ways.
Here are some answers to prayers:
* Between items sold, generous people contributing toward our adoption and selling our Change Your World For One designed shirts, the Lord brought in $5,375 which all goes directly toward the remaining costs associated with our adoption of our son Hudson.
* People understood why we were doing this and thus didn't barter much. They were excited to buy stuff that they needed, especially knowing that it was helping an orphan and his family get united. Several people even paid more than the cost of the items...absolutely unheard of in the world of garage/yard sales.
* When we left our house at 5:00 am, it was beginning to rain. (First rain in probably 3 weeks) As we set up, put tables out, the weather was extremely threatening, but it cleared up and turned out to be a fabulous day. Not too hot, not to cold...it was perfect.
* Tons of helpers. We are so blessed to know and be loved by the greatest people in the world. If you ever decide to do an event like this, make sure you are surrounded by people who would die for you...and blister for you. There were several families who were at the Sale all day long and got very tired, hungry, sore, and they continued to serve in the strength & joy of the Lord. A special thanks to our growth group/community group from church who have given so much as we have gone down this road of adoption!!!
* Tons of items to sell. There was no shortage of items to sell. Tables after table after table after table of stuff to sell. We had a steady stream of helpers who would move things around, rearrange items, and helped customers.
* People who came to the sale. There was steady activity from 7:30 am through 3 pm and people still came between 3 and 5 pm. Seeing that we are toward the end of summer, we were wondering if we'd get people because a lot of people would be getting their last summer activities taken care of before school starts. There was somewhere between 500 and 800 people who came to this sale.
* Location of the sale. My broker's at Windermere were extremely gracious to use their building and parking lot for the sale. In real estate, the phrase 'location, location, location' is used regularly...same is true for a big sale like this.
* The church across the street that was having a HUGE Rummage sale at the same time...so that boosted the activity. When we chose the date of the sale (about 2 months ago) we had no idea of this. Friendly surprise and the Lord answering prayer before we even were praying for it.
* WE SOLD A LOT OF STUFF. When the sale was over, we only had about 1/8 of the items to pack up and move back to our house.
* Union Gospel Mission volunteered to come and pick up the items that didn't sell.
* There was only 1 big heavy item that didn't sell...which at the beginning of the sale, there were about 8 big heavy items. There was 1 lady who said she would have bought it, but it couldn't fit in her house...but SHE GAVE US $80 to put toward our adoption. Amazing.

Who is Hudson?????
If you spend any time on this site over the course of the next year, you will be hearing the name Hudson often.
Hudson is the name we have chosen for our son we are currently in the process of adopting from Ethiopia.
Although we don't have a referral of a young boy yet (as of August 10th, 2010), we still know that our son is out there and it is just a matter of time until he joins our family.
We have heard that we could possibly expect a referral within the next month or two, so we are writing on this blog and as means of updating others about our process, what the Lord is doing in our hearts, and other related information specific to adoption.
